about Site Build It!
Or, the Ridiculous
Things Some People Say about SBI!Welcome to my SBI! myths page.
I'm Steve M Nash, by the way - in case you didn't realise!
And I've been a SBI! site owner since 2001 which is why some of the SBI! myths
really do sound ridiculous to me. But I understand where these 'strange
ideas' might come from: - Someone may have had a bad experience with
SBI! (Not everyone likes the way SBI! suggest you build
a website, for example.)
- Someone may know someone who had a bad
experience
- Someone may discover SBI! sites and come to their own
mis-informed opinions
Anyway, I'm going to debunk some basic SBI!
myths on this page. And I'll keep adding to it as I hear about them. So
here goes... SBI! Myths- SBI! is just for
beginners
The truth is... SBI! was designed with beginners in mind,
but anyone can benefit from building sites the SBI! way! I have considerable site-building
experience.
For example, I've been making a living from my non-SBI! websites
since 2000. And it's still possible to make a living not using SBI!, even today,
but it's just much more difficult. And that's why I started my latest website
using SBI! (as my SBI! diary will explain).
-
All the SBI! sites look the same
A lot of the beginner SBI! sites
have a similar 2-column 'look' to them, I agree. But there are now advanced 3-column
templates that beginners can now access, and web professionals (people like me)
can build their SBI! site using their favoured development tool (e.g. Dreamweaver)
and design the site how they please!
The bottom line is this, though: SBI!
sites have a clean, professional look. The focus is on content. The focus is on
pleasing the site visitor with that content. This is how to succeed with your
website online, these days.
- SiteSell controls your web site
name (or domain)
No, this is just untrue! SiteSell are a domain registrar,
yes, but if you want to transfer your site away from SiteSell - i.e. you want
to stop using SBI! - then you can do so. And the process is just the same as if
you were transferring your domain from one web host to another.
- You
can't use programs like Dreamweaver or Frontpage with it
This is very
much not true. You can use whatever program you want to build your site, and then
you just upload the HTML via the Upload Your Own HTML button.
Since owing
an SBI! site in 2001 I've always developed my sites using Dreamweaver!
- SBI!
is just too expensive
Well, I guess this is less a myth than a matter
of opinion. The fact of the matter is that you can build and host your
website for less than US$299 per year (the cost of an SBI! subscription). But
to then come up with the conclusion that SBI! is too expensive is simply comparing
apples with pears!
SBI! comes with a) outstanding
tools like content 2 module, keyword research tool, Analyse It! (SEO module)
and more and b) an Action Guide that shows you how to use those tools, step by
step, to build a website that works and c) online success-focussed forums where
you can help and be helped.
So, to me, US$299 represents outstanding value.
But
if you prefer to do it 'your way' for less then good luck to you! And let's compare
progress this time next year, next 5 years etc. MOST people will save money
in the short term but waste time and money in the long term by building websites
the old fashioned web hosting way. In my opinion.
Okay,
do you know of a SBI! myth I haven't answered? Well, either visit this questions
or FAQ page or get in touch
and let me know! Thanks, Steve M Nash | |
